Cadmium-induced oxidative damage and protective action of fractioned red beet (Beta vulgaris) root juice in chickens
2018
Article Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most dangerous environmental bioaccumulative pollutants that affects many organs in humans and animals. Present investigation was conducted to evaluate the protective effect of fractioned red beetroot juice on Cd - induced oxidative stress in chickens. The named red beetroot juice fraction (BJF) was received by juice ultrafiltration. Per oral administration of BJF for 10 days followed by dietar y Cd exposure (50 mg kg - 1 of diet) was evaluated in the in vivo experiments in chickens. The prominent increase of Cd concentration in blood plasma, liver and kidney provoked the rise of oxidative processes activity in organs. BJF treatment attenuated the Cd - ind…
Nutraceuticals and blood pressure control: A European Society of Hypertension position document
2020
: High-normal blood pressure (BP) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, however the cost-benefit ratio of the use of antihypertensive treatment in these patients is not yet clear. Some dietary components and natural products seems to be able to significantly lower BP without significant side effects. The aim of this position document is to highlight which of these products have the most clinically significant antihypertensive action and wheter they could be suggested to patients with high-normal BP. Among foods, beetroot juice has the most covincing evidence of antihypertensive effect. Antioxidant-rich beverages (teas, coffee) could be considered. Among nutrients, …

Therapeutic effect of fractionated by ultrafiltration red beetroot (Beta vulgaris l.) juice in rats with food-induced fatty liver
2019
The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), being a component of metabolic syndrome, has increased (15-27%) in the industrialized world. The deep mechanism of this pathology is not clear, but it is multifactorial. There is a huge amount of food supplements and medicines with hepatoprotective effect on the market, but the NAFLD problem is far from being resolved. Hepatoprotective products have to provide wide spectra of biological effects, including antioxidant, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory action. It is peculiar to natural compounds, including red beetroot juice, which is well known to most of the population. This is important in view of the high prevalence of NAFLD. Th…
Application of beetroot's nitrates juice in team sports
2023
News. - Beet juice has recently become the focus of interest of many research entities. This is due to its positive effects on many aspects of exercise in various sports disciplines. Supplementation with nitrate-rich beet juice can both reduce muscle soreness and accelerate the recovery process, reduce the aerobic cost of exercise, and improve the physical performance of athletes. Nitrate supplementation increases plasma nitrite concentrations and lowers resting blood pressure. Furthermore, nitrate supplementation also lowers the aerobic cost during submaximal exercise and may, under certain circumstances, increase exercise tolerance and performance. This is due to the increased bioavailabi…
